High-end hotels in HCMC see rise in room occupancy rate
Update: Monday, August 18, 2014

Higher room occupancy rate are being recorded in three-five star hotels in Ho Chi Minh city after a sudden reduction in the number of tourists in May due to the East Sea situation, according to the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

High-end hotels in the city had an average occupancy of about 46%. In May and June 2014, hotels specializing in visitors from China witnessed a sharp reduction in occupancy rate, with some seeing as low as 20%. In July and August 2014, the figures are reported to be on the rise.

Vice General Director of New World Saigon Hotel, Dang Huy Hai, said that due to the East Sea situation, hotel bookings decreased by 6%. Currently, the hotel’s room capacity is expected to reach 58-59% in August and gain another 63% in September.

Better growth is expected for high-class hotels in the fourth quarter of 2014 as the tourism industry enters in the peak season of greeting foreign tourists./.
