Improving quality of Viet Nam’s tourism human resource for ASEAN integration
 
(TITC) – On 3 Dec 2014, in Ha Noi, The European Union-funded Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Program (ESRT Program) in collaboration with the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) and its Tourism & Hospitality Sector Committee organized a conference on “The implementation of the revised Vietnam Tourism Occupational Standards (VTOS)”.
 
 
The conference had the participation of Ms. Nicola Connolly, Chairwoman of EuroCham; Mr. Franz Jessen, Ambassador - Head of EU Delegation to Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of Viet Nam Administration of Tourism (VNAT); experts in tourism field; investors; tourism businesses; domestic and international airlines and media agencies.
 
The conference aimed to upgrade service standard and quality of human resource of Viet Nam tourism industry in line with the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Tourism Professional (MRA-TP); provide information about benefit of the VTOS and MRA-TP for tourism and hospitality sector; improve the relevance and effectiveness of the VTOS.
 
 
 
Speaking at the conference, General Director of VNAT Nguyen Van Tuan stressed that Viet Nam tourism should accelerate to prepare for the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community due end of 2015. The conference was a chance to exchange experience and give practical suggestions for policy making, education and training, development and application of tourism occupational skills to improve the quality of human resources to meet the increasing demand of the tourism industry.
 
He also affirmed that human resource plays a core role in occupational development, especially in tourism industry, training tourism human resource in line with the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Tourism Professional (MRA-TP) is thus one precondition for international integration of the tourism industry.
 
Being held for the first time, the conference was a platform for establishing a permanent dialogue mechanism and effective partnership between the public and private tourism sector in Viet Nam.
