Opening Southern Don Ca Tai Tu Festival

Opening Southern Don Ca Tai Tu Festival

The 2015 Southern Don Ca Tai Tu (traditional musical art form of the south) Festival was organized in HCM city on July 11.

The festival is a significant public art event to realise the community’s commitment to UNESCO in preserving and promoting values of the art form, according to Nguyen Van Minh, Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh City’s municipal Department of Culture and Sports.

The event will promote the art form to the public, particularly the youth, in order to continue preserving and promoting its unique values.

The festival attracted 250 singers and traditional musical instrument players from 24 outstanding clubs in Ho Chi Minh City. Their performances mainly praise the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, patriotism, love, and socio-economic and cultural achievements.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 26.

‘Don Ca Tai Tu', a folk art form developed across Vietnam’s southern region since the end of 19th century, was recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humankind in December 2013.
