Press trained for upcoming IPU-132

A press training conference for the upcoming 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) Assembly and related meetings in late March was held in Hanoi on March 20.

The conference was organised by the Press Authority under the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) in association with the Information and Communication Subcommittee under the IPU-132 Organising Board.

Addressing the event, MIC Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung highlighted that this year’s IPU hosted by Vietnam will welcome around 1,000 delegates including high-ranking parliament officials and members of regional inter-parliamentary unions and international organisations worldwide.

Over 300 journalists from local and international press and news agencies are expected to cover the meetings, he said.

He urged the local press to widely disseminate information on the history of the IPU, the Viet Nam-IPU relationship and the country’s initiatives for the IPU-132.

It is vital for the press to be well-prepared for the forthcoming event and capable of covering the news in a timely fashion, he added.

At the conference, the journalists were introduced to the IPU and its political significance to Viet Nam as the host of this year’s event, as well as preparatory works for the occasion.

The IPU-132 will take place in Hanoi from March 28-April 1.
