Mekong a best-value destination

Mekong a best-value destination

Viet Nam’s Mekong Delta has been chosen among the 10 best-value destinations for 2015 by Rough Guides, a British publisher of travel and reference guides.

The country’s rice basket is sixth in the list that also features Kosovo, the Peak district in the UK, the Canary Islands in Spain, Karnataka in India, Northern Ireland, Alentejo in Portugal, Northwestern China, Oaxaca in Mexico, and Queens in the US.

The rankings are based on economy, the worth of the experience, and the ability of travellers to integrate and explore the daily life and culture of local people.

“At the end of its epic journey through the heart of Indochina, the coffee-brown Mekong River splits, sloshing seawards through Vietnam,” it says about the delta.

“…Although the fertile plains and waterways are a riot of vivid colours and flavours, with endless opportunities for exploring by motorbike and boat, the area still sees surprising few foreign tourists.
