  Global media spotlight Viet Nam’s tourism attractions

 
Viet Nam’s credentials as an international travel destination gathered momentum in 2014 after the nation received kudos from the global media as a must see travel destination on many occasions.

Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh
 
Since 1994, Ha Long Bay has been recognized by UNESCO as a world natural heritage and in November 2011 it was selected as one of new Seven Wonders of the World by New7Wonders website.
 
In 2014 the bay was chosen as the most beautiful travel destination in the world by the prestigious tourism websites Global Grashopper and Reuters.
 
Cua Van fishing village located next to the bay, was also listed among the world’s most alluring coastal destinations by TravelandLeisure while the US Forbes magazine advised tourists to visit the bay by seaplane to best enjoy its stunning beauty.
 
Son Dong Cave in the central Quang Binh province
 
With a length of 9km and a depth which can embrace a 40-storey building, pictures of Son Dong cave were highlighted by US magazines –  New York Times, National Geographic and Huffington Post – in 2014 as some of the most impressive pictures of the year.
 
Phu Quoc island in the southern province of Kien Giang
 
The leading Italian newspaper La Repubblica extolled the charm of Phu Quoc island as a small paradise with white sands and blue sea water. The newspaper also advised visitors to experience the island in lieu of more popular beaches in Indonesia and Thailand.
 
Meanwhile, experts from National Geographic ranked Phu Quoc fourth on its list of 15 must-see destinations. The magazine advised tourists that the winter months from December to March is the best time to visit the island. 
 
Da Nang
 
In recent years, the coastal city of Da Nang has been selected by TripAdvisor as a most fascinating destination for tourism on a number of occasions. 
 
Hanoi
 
According to Smart Travel Asia tourism magazine, Hanoi ranked the eighth top tourist destination in 2014 in Asia, the second consecutive year Hanoi made the list.
 
Hoi An
 
Tourpia magazine cited the ancient town of Hoi An with the world’s most exquisite canals as one of the top destinations for the year. The magazine ranked it Hoi An the fourth best travel destination trailing Venice (Italy), Amsterdam (Netherland) and Bruges (Brussels).

 Festival to exhibit Tet celebrations of Vietnam’s ethnic groups
 Traditional customs practiced by Vietnamese ethnic groups such as the Mong, Tay, and Muong during Tet (traditional lunar New Year) festival will be presented to visitors at a festival scheduled to take place in Hanoi on February 7 -11.  
  Boating along O Lau River
  To make a boat tour along the O Lau River, we departed at a wharf in Hoi Ky Village in Thua Thien-Hue Province, where bamboo clumps mirrored in the clear water. We slowly sailed past My Xuyen carpentry village and Phuoc Tich ceramic village, which is famous for its centuries-old wooden houses.  
 H’Mong people with cultural diversity
H’Mong minority ethnic group in the northern upland province of Son La celebrates the New Year a month earlier than the country’s traditional Lunar New Year, or Tet.  
Vi-Giam singing - intangible cultural heritage of humanity
A programme is jointly held by the central provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh on January 31, 2015 to receive the UNESCO certification for local Vi-Giam folk singing as part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage.    
Da Nang to host 7th int’l firework competition
The 7th Da Nang International Fireworks Competition (DIFC) 2015 will take place in the central city on April 28-29, the municipal People’s Committee announced on January 30.
