 Festival to exhibit Tet celebrations of Vietnam’s ethnic groups

 
Traditional customs practiced by Vietnamese ethnic groups such as the Mong, Tay, and Muong during Tet (traditional lunar New Year) festival will be presented to visitors at a festival scheduled to take place in Hanoi on February 7 -11.
 
The festival is expected to draw the participation of over 140 outstanding representatives, including senior and head members of villages as well as intellectuals and artisans who belong to Mong and Thai ethnic groups in Son La province, the Dao group in Tuyen Quang province, Tay and Nung groups in Lang Son province, and the Muong ethnic group in Bac Ninh province.
 
The event will also be attended by 100 Overseas Vietnamese and around 3,000 students in Hanoi.
 
To mark the event, ethnic groups will exhibit their indigenous cultural practices, folk songs and dances, signature dishes, and handicraft products.
 
Gatherings to extend Tet greetings, cultural exchanges and art performances of the minority groups and Overseas Vietnamese will also take place during the event.
 
Visitors to the event can also try making banh chung (square glutinous rice cake), a popular rice cake in the northern region of Vietnam.
 
The festival, which is to be staged at the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in Dong Mo, Son Tay town, is an annual event held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism aiming to preserve and promote unique cultural features of Vietnamese ethnic groups across the country.
