The main historical artefacts in the area consist of Pac Bo Cave, Coc Bo Cave, Lenin Stream, Karl Marx Mountain, Ho Chi Minh Museum and Khuoi Nam.

The famous Coc Bo Cave is where President Ho Chi Minh established his residence and worked on Vietnam's revolutionary course after returning from 30 years abroad.

Located in the centre of Dien Bien City, the Dien Bien Phu historical site comprises the Muong Thanh bridge, Him Lam hill, A1 hill, soldiers’ national cemeteries on A1, D1 and C1 hills, and Dien Bien Phu museum.

There, General Vo Nguyen Giap and other generals made decisive decisions leading to the success of each battle with the pinnacle of the general offensive on the whole front, resulting in the resounding historic victory on May 7, 1954.

The prison was erected by French colonists in 1908 with initial area of 500 square metres. In 1930, it was expanded to 1,500 square metres and then 1,700 square metres in 1940.

The Son La prison is located in the centre of Son La city, on the top of Khau Ca hill from which one can view the entire town.
