Major Mekong Delta tourism week to open this weekend
 
 
The Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week will kick off in Can Tho City for the first time on June 27 with many activities for individual visitors and tourism companies, according to the Southwest Steering Committee, the organizer of the event.
 
 
Nguyen Phong Quang, deputy head of the committee and head of the steering committee of the tourism week, said the event would be organized to promote tourism development of inland and offshore destinations in the Mekong Delta region. 
 
Provinces and relevant organizations will work together to link destinations in the region to avoid overlapping products and services and boost trade and investment in the green tourism sector.
 
During the week-long festival, local and foreign travel agencies will showcase their products and services at over 1,000 booths at a fair in the riverside area of the Can Tho River in Cai Rang District of Can Tho City. The event will also highlight socio-economic and tourism development in the Mekong Delta over the past years. 
 
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a conference on green tourism development in the Mekong Delta for delegates to discuss measures for the sustainable growth of the sector based on environmental protection and climate change adaptation. 
 
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, head of the Southwest Steering Committee, is expected to chair a conference on investment promotion and green tourism in the Mekong Delta on June 30. This conference will be attended by representatives of 150 local enterprises, 15 embassies and international organizations in HCMC and other localities strong in the tourism industry. 
 
As part of the tourism event, VNAT will put on a seminar on the application of the blue lotus label, a symbol of green tourism in ASEAN countries, in the accommodation network in Vietnam on July 1.
 
A field trip starting at the resort island of Phu Quoc off mainland Kien Giang Province through Ca Mau Province and Can Tho City is organized from on June 21 to this weekend to help travel companies find ways to connect destinations of the localities and prepare for the national tourism year in 2016. 
 
The green tourism week will also comprise of art performances, cuisine and street festivals arranged by 13 provinces of the Mekong Delta region and the final of the Miss Delta Pageant.
